Haikus to provide a concise, meditative break from modern digital overload to encourage a return to nature and mindful observation.

One of my favourite Voltaire quotes:

Boulder is resting near me,
inscrutable in its demeanour and certainly not too concerned by the world
around it. Time to digress once more from my rolling!
Given the complexity of the
world around us, one issue has become as daunting as can be: that of this ever
evolving way of communication with each other. It is a sort of paradox that has
reached levels that are very alarming and isolating us more when we think we
are getting closer to each others. People are texting right and left, even when
queuing up, walking or driving, endangering their lives and those of others.
What is the urgency that compels the individual to pursue such a way of
communicating? Is it because it is cheap, or is it because the information
cannot wait to be shared? The explanation could be entirely not related to the
means but rather to the end. The process of writing is somehow more practical
since it allows us to think for an elaborate answer to a message, whereas
responding to a call has to be spontaneous and can sometimes be confusing
because of an emotion that was not there in the first place.
This one issue is only one of
many that do affect what the meaning of life in this technological world has
become: harder to analyse. Everything becomes obscured by false purposes that
lead us astray from our humanity which was more present when minimalism was the
norm in our approach to communicate with each other and be attuned to our
environment. No more simple phone calls
or epistolary exchanges to inform each other because we want to be informed now
and often, the immediacy multiplied tenfold by access to cheap information as the serious and more meaningful one is harder to tackle. It is definitely a case of mediocrity in a context of complexity. Where is that boulder now? Rolling away from me again just like my poor tired mind!

Confusing changes
In a world of confusing
changes, where ideologies are no longer necessary to justify government
policies and market economies, the average individual, the one who is
willingly exploitable at the hand of very few, because he or she has to make a
living and somehow feel happy about being a contributing factor in his or her
community, life can become sedated because the mind becomes numbed by modern
preoccupations, with very little time to focus on real issues, such as profound
inner happiness, not the one provided by modern paraphernalia, but the one that
occupies its rightful place in our brains. And no, I am not unhappy! On the
contrary! Once I have assumed that I was constituted by my own judgment,
determination and decision to reach goals of my own choosing, not those imposed
upon me by either my close or distant environment, I was able to shrug off all
systems of culture, convention, tradition, religion, as resolutely supplied and
sometimes borrowed parameters for making intelligent life choices in small increments
rather than en masse decisions. I am the one who decided to live again after
being such a cruel and evil man, daring to even trap silly Thanatos, god of
death, to demonstrate my hubris, paying for it dearly now that I am back
eternally in Hades after Ares intervened to liberate the former and put me back
where I belong. Ah, but down here, things are so simple, nothing disturbs the
routine, except for my frequent dreams of seeing Prometheus on Mount Caucasus –
I am sure you knew all along that it was impossible for me to see him from my
prison – which occur rather frequently recently. Perhaps I envy him without
wanting to admit it; his destiny is preferable to mine since one day he will be
liberated by Heracles himself after the latter slays his tormentor, whereas my
punishment will last for ever. He is after all a better man than I am! Time to
resume my ascension with impassive Boulder!
